9th Conference on Statistical Mechanics of Soft Matter @ Murdoch

Murdoch University’s School of Mathematics, Statistics, Chemistry and Physics last week hosted the Conference on Statistical Mechanics of Soft Matter.

The conference was the ninth in a series of these good-science-low-cost workshops which started in 2012 at RMIT University. Great to add Murdoch University and Western Australia to that list.

Over 3 days, the workshop featured a line up of the country’s leading academics in statistical mechanics of soft materials and offered plenty of opportunity for postgraduate students to present their research. See this link for the scientific program.

The program was complemented by a one-day research school with featured a session by Andreas Menzel (Magdeburg Uni) on hydrodynamic interactions and Tim Duignan (Griffith Uni) on neural network potentials.

Murdoch University’s “The Loft” provided an excellent venue. We are grateful to Murdoch University for making it available free of charge. We are grateful to the College of STEM and Curtin University for their sponsorship of a conference lunch and coffee breaks, and to the Murdoch University Pro Vice Chancellor Equity & Diversity for the availability of equity funding. We are grateful to Nigel Marks (Curtin Uni), Ricardo Mancera (Curtin Uni) and Nathan Clisby (Swinburne Uni) for the co-organisation of the conference.

The next and 10th iteration of the workshop will be hosted by Peter Harrowell in Sydney in 2024.
